Actually I think Jeb was the one who was supposed to get elected, at
least early on. GW was given his shot and I believe wasn't given much
of a chance of success; I mean, look who he was running against: Gore
for the Dems, strong on paper (though as we saw he self destructed),
and John McCain for the Republicans, a man with an impressive
bipartisan Senate history, war hero, and otherwise very popular. When
it became obvious that GW actually had a chance that's when the weight
of the Republican party went to his team.
