I'd change that to "shame on the citizens who elect them" personally.
Just like I'd say "shame on citizens who allowed great actors and demagogues
like the little psychopath with a mustache or the big fat bald guy with
contorted facial expressions to get power based on their charismatic
personalities in the 20th century".
yes, I admit, I don't really trust charismatic leaders, I'm afraid of
"candidate-based-politics" ( what I refer to by this is choosing someone for
his personality rather than a political view, program), I don't think
politics should be based on public image and I don't read tabloids because
life of the show-business stars don't interest me.
I've got nothing against actors going into politics, but for my personal
mental comfort I like to think that people I give my trust to are
knowledgeable in their field, and are really involved in a political plan,
and a certain political awareness. I have my doubts for some, as I think
there's a a certain dange in giving political power to someone based on his
public image rather than on his political integrity.
