It depends on the subject. Mathematics is not mathematics, it's
versatile. But one never knows which things are connected to each
other. Just look at the zeta function: it has to do with number theory
(which is mostly about integers) -> "Primzahlsatz", whatever you call
it ("prime number conjecture"?), but is also interesting with respect to
irrationality of numbers (zeta(2) == pi^2/6, but AFAIK there's still no
proof whether zeta(2n+1) is irrational for all positive integers n).

Currently there's enough room for anyone in mathematics. But this might
change in five or ten years. But I don't think so.
