At my alma mater in the US (mtfester may or may not remember which
one), the number of Japanese applicants have more or less remained
flat over the past decade, even as applications from rest of Asia have
gone through the roof.

Discuss underlying causes, ramifications on future emigration from
Japan to US, and remedies (if any required).
