I think its unlikely (in the short term at least) that you'll be able
to copy/paste from online maps, but you probably don't need much more
than a kanji dictionary and ability to be able to identify radicals
and stroke order. The internet has become an amazing tool for JSL -
most of the students at Yamasa become able to get by within 10-12
weeks - and it used to take 9-12 months.
