the default installation as it came from the factory.

What's your computer type & *exact* model number?

They're usually on a sticky label underneath the laptop.

Are you using a generic XP installation (That is, a genuine Microsoft 
install CD) or the Toshiba version from a restore CD?
If it's a generic installation, you'll need to download & install the 
Toshiba utilities & drivers, most of which are archived on the Toshiba 
Canada website. The Toshiba Control Panel extensions are only installed 
by default when you use the restore CD from the exact model you've got.
