We have a report from the fj.life.in-japan Dynamics Officer that sensyujin has
exploded. Flight director confirms that:

Well, I was a bit of a special case because it wasn't a matter of personal
preference. It was *necessary* to get it, and fast.

Wife-to-be's mother had a government contact who agreed to make a couple of
calls to the immigration office and vouch for me, which made the entire process
much easier (see other posts in this thread about "pushing the correct official
buttons". When the application was approved I was required to go to the
immigration office in Nagoya, go Behind the Curtain into the staff area, and
speak with the Nagoya office director personally. They were making sure one last
time that I performed as advertised. I was as pleasant and thankful as I could
muster, and it worked.

My wife-to-be's house burned down, destroying everything.

Insurance only covered part of the cost, and no one in the family was qualified
to take on a long-term loan to rebuild. If I got permanent residency, I would be
qualified. We were already engaged anyway, so we got married earlier than
scheduled. Then came the eijuuken, then the sale into financial slavery until
age 65.... :)
