Its not impossible, just unusual. The other considerations are that
even with permanent residency, you still need a re-entry permit and
therefore need to visit immigration every 3 years in any case, and
still have to do the fingerprinting and registration card updates etc.
PR wouldn't necessarily make life any easier, for me at least.
