Indeed. Even the NY Times seems to be tiring of it.

Speaking of the Times, did you read its editorial on the Venezuelan
election, three *days* after the election?
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/18/opinion/18wed4.html?ex=1250568000&en=055654854867e7c6&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland
"It is time for President Hugo Ch$(D??(Bvez's opponents to stop pretending
that they speak for most Venezuelans. They do not, as the failure of a
recall referendum, promoted by the opposition, decisively demonstrated
on Sunday. . . . The opposition . . . needs to stop shouting foul."

However, the next day, the Times editoral board groused about an
election that was over three *years* ago:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/08/19/opinion/19thu1.html?ex=1250654400&en=9e06c1eb31c4d4c8&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland
"One of the scandals of the last presidential election was the large
number of voters who were denied the right to vote because of foul-ups
in the election system, like errors in the voting rolls or problems in
directing voters to their correct polling places."

The obvious explanation is that Jimmy Carter certified the Venezuelan
election, so it must be legit.

Quite an acrobatic feat that pooch pulled off.
