No you don't, unless you're cooking specialty breads. My BYJW uses a
bread machine quite often and it makes excellent bread, spanning the
spectrum. It's along the lines of what Kuri said earlier: if you can't
cook bread without the machine you won't be able to with it. The model
we have (US) is excellent. What it does is take out a lot of the leg
work. It's just an added bonus that the bread is baked to perfection as
well.
