This is where you get introduced to Cash's Corollary on the old "The
unexamined life is not worth living" chestnut:

The overly-examined life is too damned depressing to live.

There exist in life some very serious matters about which is it far
better all around if no serious thought is given them. The cost of
child-rearing tops the list.
