Which just demonstrates how stupid this law really is. To be consistent with
the only remotely socially acceptable rationalization for such a law
(avoiding the psychology harm to children, for which there isn't a shred of
evidence, but it sounds good enough), it would have to prevent homosexuals
from procreating in addition to adopting. But of course Mr. Peterson, the
law's sponsor and Floridian extraodinaire, was kind of enough to articulate
for us the real reason behind the law: "the purpose of the legislation was
to send a message to gays and lesbians that 'we're really tired of you. We
wish you'd go back into the closet.'" Yes, a proud state indeed, that
Florida.
