actually, most koreans see their competition as other koreans, not the 
"white man".

i was doing some business for awhile with an SAT hogwon in LA.  it was 
mostly korean students and most of the parents owned small businesses.  
the parents were unbelievably competitive with each other.  they always 
talked about what private school they were sending their children 
(harvard-westlake was the popular one).

we even had a lot of parents come in asking who the other kids are in 
the SAT class that their child was enrolled in.  after we tell them, 
they would ask if any of those kids go to public school...because they 
didn't want their private school attending child to associate with the 
public school kids.  you know, they all heard stories about so-and-so 
who met a public school kid and now she's pregnant and dropped out, etc.
