Some judoka, when attempting Sangakujime, pull their legs towards their
self, creating a slight gap between the legs. The choke can be more
effective if the legs are pushed away a little, allowing the thighs to
become closer on the neck. Pulling on the arm can also help the legs "bed
into" the correct position on your opponents the neck.
It is much easier to demonstrate than it is to describe.
