One element I like about the US system is that, while sometimes a bit
too aggressive in their protection efforts, they do a decent job of
stopping the criminals. In Japan it's almost as though the government
doesn't care one whit for the rights of a child to NOT get beaten,
once or regularly. But, then, I hardly find it surprising. While I'm
not blaming the media, I think a lot of people in the world have a
very skewed sense of right and wrong, a lot of which comes from being
raised by television and video games and not parents (who might also
have been raised in such a way).
