First, be aware that working at this level can totally foul up your hard
drive. You also need to be happy working in a command line environment.

Boot from the UBCD, then open Filesystem tools, then Partition managers.

Select Cute Partition manager.

The CD will then boot up a version of DOS, and as the options are
displayed, you need to enable ntfs support. Then Cute Partition Manager
will display the partition information for your HDD. Delete all the
partitions, then save the changes. At this point, your HD will be as it
came from the factory.

You can then make any layout of partitions you wish, I normally make one
for the Operating system and programs, and another for data, but a lot
of people just make one large partition for everything.

Close the computer down, remove the UBCD, and reboot from your XP
install media. It should then install XP, asking if you want to keep
your existing partition layout.

That's what happened when I did it, anyway....

If you can get a Bart PE CD, then a lot of this can be done using a GUI.
I've not used this method, though, and you'll need a working XP computer
to make the Bart PE CD-R.
