What is digital slr?

I ahve looked at the fuji finepix s7000 and the EOS Digital Rebel

I don't know what the difference is

Is one film and other flash card or are they both flash card?

Do I need a film scanner to put on pc?

What are the benefits of slr? Seems a lot of people say they are best.

Any help appreciated.
