After getting slammed for not covering the story (they got it from the
AP) The Tennessean finally has an article:
http://www.tennessean.com/article/20091001/NEWS03/910010361/Japan+detains+Franklin++Tenn.++father+in+custody+fight+for+kids
Things I find interesting: "Savoie transferred $700,000 to Noriko,
according to the divorce decree." ""She wanted the marriage to work,
but he left. ""
Getting married within six months of your divorce (only ten months
after your wife came from Japan to be with you) is a bit low, IMHO.
But I think it was headed downhill already; he was here six months
before she came to be with him. You gotta feel bad for the kids in
this; they will be screwed up for a long time.
On the one hand I can't blame her for wanting to be in a comfortable
environment with her family, and it seems he was involved with another
woman while they were apart; but on the other hand ... honestly I
can't think of what's on the other hand. I reckon their marriage was
failing, they tried to reconcile but couldn't, and he didn't want her
to go be with her family after he decided he'd rather have his old
flame from college.
