I upgraded my Satellite A30 from the standard install to XP Pro using the
upgrade route without any problems. All my software and drivers worked
without a hitch, this was after I'd been using my laptop for some months and
had been running regular updates.
Recently my hard disk died and I was forced to the procedure again,
unfortunately it did not work and was due to (I suspect) the graphics
drivers installed with the recovery disks. Even more annoying was that I
only had an upgrade CD for XP Pro, when I tried a clean install I could not
verify against the recovery disk (good job I have an XP Home disk for my
kids pc too!)
So good luck and beware! Clean install is the way to go - but make sure you
have a disk you can validate against.
