I hate to sound cruel, but do you think that might have some correlation
with the fact that you were laid off multiple times?

Between translation and developing software, I am pretty busy. But I am
there for my son's raising. Not as much as I would like, but I'm around.
Working at home makes that easier.

However, I don't do much cooking or cleaning -- and I actually like
cooking -- because if I have an hour free, I would rather hang out with my
kid than do the laundry.

I do feel guilty about that, but rather than help out with the housework, I
would rather hire someone to come
in and do it for us. But the lady we hired back on the mainland pretty much
poisoned the wells, bad-mouthing my wife and saying she just played all the
time and didn't take care of her house or husband. My wife hasn't wanted to
talk about getting a housekeeper since then.

I think I have an "in" to get a housekeeper back though. With the
addition that we built, our house is now pretty massive, and with my wife
scheduled to be in the hospital for a week for surgery, I will hire a lady
to come in and help with housework "on a temporary basis." Then after she is
out of the hospital, we'll just prolong that temporary period indefinitely.
