When I used the idiom, I had no idea it would lead to a
misunderstanding. If I had thought it would, then I would have tried
to find a less idiomatic, more clear way of phrasing it.

As you have probably discovered by now, to "have a say" doesn't mean
"express an opinion". It means to have a part in the decision making
or the outcome of something.

I hope you don't think I intentionally used a confusing idiom or that
I have been criticizing your English skills.
