Are they saying they have to replace the whole floor? thats bullshit.
They probably think you won't do anything about it and just give up.

If it only needs a few strips replacing then how can they charge you that
much?
They are ripping you off, especially as you have lived there for so long.
Check your contract,
get in touch with a housing group, Im sure there are some about.
Tell them your contacting a group/lawyer etc, see if that puts the
frighteners on them.
The last thing they would want is bad publicity.
