You sound at least somewhat tentative about this. Are you sure? If so,
it would seem we could find some trace of it through film databases. 
For actualy access off these things I usually buy/rent at
<http://www.facetsvideo.com>  And they don't have anything that relates
to an earlier version either.  Does that movie have no reference to
Makioka and/or Sasameyuki in it?
