I remember it being a pretty game that most decent people hated, myself
included.

It really was a work of art to behold (and music almost to match), but
gorgeous 2D hand painted grafix and sounds aren't all a game is about and
Legend of Mana is the perfect exemple.

Where was the story? And most importantly, where was the gameplay? Never
before have I seen an RPG system where the improvement of your weapons and
magic, NPC's and just about everything else mattered so little and remained
useless throughout the entire game.

And how about the slow downs so severe you were pratically unable to move
during boss fights? Yea, that is always heaps of fun.

Chrono Cross, another hyped to death sequel to one of the best RPG games
ever made (Chrono Trigger) was excruciatingly dull as well and yet another
major letdown from the almighty Square (who, to be fair, redeemed
themselves by releasing Vagrant Story, another masterpiece that
re-stablished my faith somewhat in the company).

I sure hope to be proven wrong, but I'm not holding my breath for this one.
