My only advice would be to look at models that use commonly available
batteries such as AA size. In a pinch, you can buy fresh batteries
practically anywhere. And if you use rechargeable batteries, you can
easily and reasonably buy a compact recharger for them here in Japan.

Almost 100% of my digital camera use is in my truck. I keep two sets
of batteries. One in the camera, and the other goes in the recharger,
which I can power through a small AC/DC converter run off the
cigarette lighter.

Oh, and if you can get a model that allows for updating the camera's
internal software (or firmware, or whatever the fuck it's called),
that would be a plus.
