Once, when booking a flight from Memphis to Tokyo, I was asked if I
wanted to change planes in Los Angeles or Seattle. I chose Seattle.
The ticket agent informed me that the layover would be about an hour
longer than if I changed planes in Los Angeles. I said I didn't care,
I still wanted to change in Seattle.
"But why?"
"Because I don't like California."
"But you're only changing planes. You'd just be in the airport."
"I don't even want to change planes in California."
"Oh....okay."
That ought to answer your question.
