But that has nothing to do with caller ID in the end equipment, it only
tests whether the carriers can exchange it correctly. Since they are all
based on SS7 for intercarrier exchange, not much of a difficulty.
"Caller ID" generally refers to the mechanism for transporting it to
wireline devices. In the US (and in Japan, too, I believe) it is sent as
a Bell103 modem compatible datastream between the first and second rings.

If you are dealing with wireless, you are normally dealing with an
established digital protocol. If the wireless device works at all, it
can display the calling number.
