I am on my second digital (I have been a film buff until my first digital
about two years ago now, which was a Sony point and shoot) I have the
FujiFilm S5000 and am pleased with the auto mode. Contrary to some
criticism of the S5000 I think it is a good digital and I think the auto
mode produces great results. I would think if you are not too much on
wanting manual controls (the manual controls that are on the s5000, I find
them clumsy to work with and is one reason I am looking at the s7000) look
at the s5000 as a serious camera.
I have read a lot of reports on the s7000 and I know of no one who has found
a flaw. There are some good reports out there on the web that are
constructive.
I am also looking at the Minolta Dimage A1 it seems to be a good buy and it
has the ability to over-come the shakes.
One thing, on the s5000, that you may want to look closely at is the 10x
power, the pictures at any power is good.
I bought the 1.5 telephoto lens and find that it is not worth the buy as the
ten power is enough for most pictures, the 1.5x is very hard to focus on
nearer objects, and a impossibility on a moving object even a slow one.
Hope this helps.
