These are being used 24/7 for DVR recording.

When Maxtor first introduced the 100GB drives, I replaced most of them
within the first 6 months. Problem was that on the fly, controller would
arbitrarily write to the drive without reading to see what it was doing -
sort of not  looking before you leaping. Problem initially thought to be the
RTO/S (not Windoz) but turned out to be the IDE controller card was
possessed.  Without too much arm twisting Maxtor, accommodated by replacing
the HDD's.

They may be OK for conventional workstation use, however have an unnerving
view on the majority of continuous duty HDD's out there. Anyone make a
mil-spec'd drive - related to a Timex watch ???
