Have you by any chance actually tried comparing a USB 2 and USB 1.1
reader? I can assure you that USB 2 readers are *much* faster, even when
using standard CF cards.
I suspect that (as someone else suggested) you are talking about write
speed. Most of the time a card reader is only used for reading, I very
rarely have a need to write anything to a CF card with my PC.
