No, my snake piss anecdote was really sort of a tangent.
I pointed out to her, though, that just because her father wouldn't
lie to her didn't mean that other people wouldn't lie to her father.
This is the very nature of how Urban Legends get started, isn't it?
Both her father and your father-in-law may believe they are telling
the absolute gospel truth. While common sense tells us her father was
full of shit, yet trying to prove it is a futile task. In the other
case, however, all it takes is a citation of which of these strict
laws is applicable. Your father-in-law may be spreading gospel, or he
may be spreading an Urban Legend. But since his assertion is based on
the Japanese penal code, it should be very easy to confirm.
