I read that this morning as well. Just the other day, the wife and I
were talking
about the Hague convention and how Japan hasn't signed it. She saw
some
news variety programme (half-way through) that was taking pity on some
Japanese
lady in Texas who couldn't take her hybrid child "home" to Japan after
her divorce
due to the joint custody ruling.
I didn't see the show and she only saw half of it but I suspect that
they leave out
bits like the child abduction by Japanese parents and how they abscond
with them
back here.
One weird thing in the article is that the embassy is quoted as
saying:
"Parental child abduction is not considered a crime in Japan" yet he
gets busted
for kidnapping.
