It's a giongo. When I plug my headphone jack into my audio extension
cable it makes a little 'ka-click' sound, you couldn't fit a razor blade between
them. Minor wiggles and pulls have no effect on the connection - it takes a
significant force to separate them (whereupon the 'ka-click' sound plays
backwards).

On the other hand the connection between the audio extension cable and
the sound card could be described by an obscene similie involving a lady
of negotiable affection. Breathe on the cable the wrong way and it turns
from stereo to mono.

So now you know, and knowing is half the battle. ;-)
