You are talking about the Nara park, but deer are holy animal in the
Buddhist land of Kinai, Japan, as well as cows are holy in India.

Actually, the Etas and bandits in mountainous regions have been eating wild
boars and rabbits, chickens, and that's why they were despised as cruel
