次の会話はある朝、妻と夫の間で交わされたもの
です。　彼らは、新聞で最近読んだ政府の歳出
削減のことを，話しあっていた。
『スティーブ』と彼の妻は、新聞を読みながら言った。
『政府は、全体的に歳出を削減し，軍備も縮小する
ようよ。　耐用年数の過ぎた６隻の駆逐艦も廃棄
するみたい。』
それに対して夫は答えます。『それを聞くと残念に
思うよ。きっとお前もお母さんが亡くなって，寂しい
思いをしてるだろうね』
