home building
Reading all these stories on here about you guys building homes in Nipponia,
I've started to develop a similar interest. I'm not sure I would consider
building a pre-fab home in Americana, but from my newfound rabbit-hutch
perspective a pre-fab home imported from the US or Canada is starting to
look like a dream home. There would be central heating/cooling (baby!) and
properly insulated (I hope) walls and windows, earthquake-resistant 2x4
construction, cheaper prices (where the value's just gonna depreciate
anyway), and a minimum of decisions to be made with contractors.
Ironically, for a cookie-cutter dwelling it would also be pretty unique in
the neighborhood.
The biggest importer and builder of pre-fab homes in Japan is Selco, based
in Sendai, which imports homes from Canada. They have a couple websites,
but the one below is pretty informative. Anyone have experience using them,
or similar type of outfit? Did you end up with a bonafide imported 2x4
house, or simply a Canadian-looking house built to exacting Japanese
standards?
