The word you're looking for in English is "pharaoh." Although I don't really
see the resemblance myself. There are a lot of references to pre-Egyptian
civilization (the Babylonians and such) in Eva.

I kind of like that explanation, save for its lack of accounting for Toji's
unit. In your support, though, I don't remember the mass-production Evas
having eyes at all. Personally, I just thought it was the designer having
fun, but I guess four eyes does bring up some questions...
