As mentioned above insurance spreads the cost over a population (Kevin) and to yourself over time (Drew); but also it removes health costs from discretionary spending, something you would have no comprehension of. To many people the cost of a single visit to a doctor (or "primary health care giver" as you would say) is a significant cost and likely to be delayed or avoided because of more immediate costs. Of course the loony republican line you ascribe to is that this is a good thing, it stops poor people clogging up health system. It is interesting that you proscribe behaviour to general population that you hold in contempt but you have absolutely no idea what it's like.
