I have seen engineers from Mainland China to enjoy their long training period in Hong Kong and do nothing!!! An engineer from mainland did say that I should migrate to other countries such as US. The English communication skills of the management personnel and the engineers from Mainland China is bad. Therefore, they compel the local personnel to communicate in Putonghua. However, English is the international language and it is the best language, in which the personnel communicate with one another in the construction sector. Many technical references and research papers are in English and it is clearly impractical to translate them all into Chinese. Also, the quality of the translation is very important and it should only be carried out by professionals who know the relevant subjects well. We cannot rely on translators with just degrees in translation. As such, the cost of such translation is inevitably high. The building professionals and engineers from Mainland should go back to Mainland, as many local professionals, who are more competent, cannot find suitable jobs in Hong Kong. Why should we make a fuss to have the local construction professionals in Hong Kong work in Mainland!!! They have families in Hong Kong and may have to take care of their parents!!!!! Please don't split up their families!!! cc. The Hong Kong SAR Government
