I loved that bit, though. It really gave me time to think about Shinji's
internal struggle and all that, and the Ode to Joy lulling in the
background...
the silence also heightened the moment when Kaoru's head hits the LCL.

Splash.

Like that.

That scene affected me in a way no Hollywood blockbuster ever could.
The sheer gut-wrenching blood, the flesh... and along with the later episode
where Eva 01 eats the S2 engine and there's that spine-chilling roar
(even better on DVD), it's just mind-blowing.

The comedy moments are pretty good too, especially in the couple of episodes
that follow episode 8 with Asuka. The alternative Love Hina Eva in 26 had me
ROFL.

Probably another of my favourites is the very last scene of all, in 26,
where Shinji
suddenly realises he can live in his own perfect world. And suddenly,
all his friends and family are around him, shouting "Congratulations,
Shinji!"
And Shinji finally finds happiness with the people around him, and it
finishes with
the text "Thank you to my father, goodbye to my mother,
And to all the children, congratulations!"
When the credits started to roll for the last time, I thought "Wow, it's all
over..."
It was goddamn amazing. When I eventually see EoE...
