The PII 8000 series used the Mobile Module 1 CPU, which maxes at a
PII 400Mhz. Any standard MM1 PII CPU should fit, but would be best
to find one pulled from a Tecra 8000 series.
The PIII series Tecra 8000 used the Mobile Module 2 CPU, which
WILL NOT FIT the PII series due to a totally different maniboard.
The CD-ROM (24x that has "issues" with Mode2/XA so it can't
reliably play Super Video CD) is a standard form-factor
laptop IDE drive inside the plastic cover, which easily unsnaps
and unscrews.
With the last BIOS update, I fitted a 300Mhz PII T8000 with a
120gig hard drive and installed XP Pro without a problem.
I've been looking for a service manual or at least a "take apart"
guide for the Tecra 8000 series, no luck so far. The CPU is
in the left rear corner near the fan. Apparently the parallel
port is mounted on the heatsink, its screw posts get very
toasty, almost too hot to touch at times. (Hmmmm, mount an
external heatsink there.... ;-)
