Just for the record I have a Sony V1 and a Pentax *ist Ds, they both take
very good shots, I almost exlusively use the Pentax.

The D_SLR will have a larger sensor and therefore less noise, at the smaller
print size and under basic good shooting conditions it will make very little
difference. If you want to crop, shoot under difficult conditions, use
larger/smaller interchangeable lenses then you can't do that on a P&S. A
D-SLR will allow you to have full control over every facit of your
photography. Obviously this all comes at some considerable cost but once you
have used a D-SLR you will rarely be satisfied by a P&S camera.
