[A slightly edited version of a posting on sci.lang.japan]

As some of you will know, about a year ago I started a
Japanese localization of the WWWJDIC dictionary server,
i.e to have the option of Japanese instruction, comments,
etc. (In fact the structure will handle other languages too.)
I know that many Japanese people find the lack of Japanese
instructions an obstacle to using the server.

There's not been a lot of progress. The "front" page has been
done (see: http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdicj.cgi?1C)
but after that it starts to peter out.

What I/we really need is the help of native speakers of Japanese
in producing the appropriate words/phrases/commands, etc. I
have no confidence in my ability to do that, and the people
who have been helping (many of whom speak and write Japanese
better than I do) don't have either.

I'd like to invite the Japanese people who I know read this
group to join in and suggest the appropriate Japanese passages
to use instead of the English ones on the WWWJDIC pages. I'll
immortalize contributors' names in the WWWJDIC User Guide.
Non-Japanese people with very strong Japanese skills are of
course welcome as well.

I have set up some pages on a Wiki which explain what's going on:
http://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/WWWJDIC_in_Japanese
and I have started putting screen-by-screen text extracts on
the page: http://www.edrdg.org/wiki/index.php/WWWJDIC_Japanese_Pages

Suggested words/phrases can be entered straight into the Wiki
page or emailed to me. I will add suggestions to the Wiki, and
when we get a consensus on them, I'll add them to the server
files. I guess they could even be discussed here on this group.

And of course, suggested amendments to the existing Japanese
is also welcome.

Looking forward to some useful contributions.

Jim
