Many of us use editing software to end up with decent videos. 
Stop-frame does not interface very well with video capturing to a computer.

One of my previous Sony camcorders had it.  My new one does not (it does 
HDV and DV so the HDV probably causes a further limitation of 
stop-frame/stop-motion).
