RIVER OF LIGHT

This sixth release by Bolivian composer Oscar Reynolds is an
all-instrumental recording full of evocative South American/ Latin rhythms
and melodies enhanced by exceptionally talented ethnic players from Bolivia,
Peru, Argentina, and Spain.

Most of the indigenous instruments that appear on RIVER OF LIGHT should
be familiar to fans of global music; and, while the music is deceptively
smooth and even soothing upon first listen, after a more careful review, one
can hear polyphonic rhythms and a lush tapestry of guitar, charango, Andean
pipes (antara), and bass. The overall effect marries South American folk
with flamenco while gorgeous and sensual melodies quicken one's pulse and
send the spirit soaring.

OSCAR REYNOLDS

A self-taught musician who first picked up a guitar at age 12,
Bolivian-born Oscar Reynolds had a short-lived career as a lawyer before
embracing a full-time career in music. He is a composer,
multi-instrumentalist, flute-maker, recording engineer, and producer
internationally-acclaimed as a master flutist of Andean bamboo flutes such
as the sikus (panflute), antara, quena, quenacho, rondador, and toyos. He
also plays the guitar, Andean string instruments charango and ronroco,
bass, and percussion. Reynolds' uniqueness includes playing the antara and
guitar simultaneously, along with percussion with his feet(!) during his
many concert performances as a soloist or with the Oscar Reynolds Trio.
