Actually, there's a WW2-era joke which explains our buddy-buddy
relationship:

It seems there was a Marine on Guadalcanal who was the only guy in his
unit who hadn't succeeded in killing any Japanese soldiers yet. He was
getting quite bummed out by this. Finally, somebody told him what to
do.

"Next time we're in a firefight, you yell 'Fuck Hirohito!' and the guy
will be so enraged he'll jump right up. Then you shoot him. Easy."

A few days go by and the two meet up again.

"Did you try my advice?"
"Yes."
"So did you kill one?"
"No."
"What happened?"
"Well, I did like you said. I yelled 'Fuck Hirohito!' at the top of my
lungs. And then this Japanese guy jumped up and yelled 'Fuck
Roosevelt!' back at me."
"So why didn't you shoot him?"
"What? And kill the only other Republican on the whole island?"
