I recently purchased a Toshiba Prot$(D??(Bg$(D??(B R700-P25 laptop computer. It's
small, light and with an easy to read screen. For about ten days
everything was going fine until I started wondering about Gadgets.
Supposedly with Windows 7 you can right click on a blank part of the
screen and see a menu that includes Gadgets. Well my computer didn't
seem to have them and instead of showing me Gadgets gave an error
message "Program not found."

On Wednesday the 21st of July I placed a call to Toshiba's Support
Center. After a short wait I was connected to a support tech who
seemed to think that Gadgets were things that plugged into the USB
port. After several minutes of trying to convince him otherwise he put
me on hold and then came back with this unlikely story. It seems that
I have an OEM version of Windows 7 and thus Gadgets are not part of
the operating system. Holding my ground I insisted that they were
since a search of the computer gave several hits with gadgets as part
of a file name. He then said he would have another tech call me back
and instruct me how to install the Gadget Program.

A couple of hours later another tech left a message on my answering
machine with a Reference number and indicated she would call back
later.

On Thursday the 22ed of July I called Toshiba again and after finally
getting connected gave the tech the Reference number. She indicated
that since Gadgets weren't on my Control Panel I probably had a bad
Windows installation. I pointed out that I didn't install Windows,
Toshiba did. She suggested that I reinstall Windows from the repair
partition even though this meant losing all of the programs and data I
had entered over several days. I asked if there was another way and
she said she would transfer me to Microsoft.

Once Microsoft came on the phone I was subjected to ten minutes of
automated menus that finally resulted in a suggestion that I call the
computer company and I was given Toshiba's number, they same one I had
stared with the day before.

At this point I feel that Microsoft doesn't care, nor should they
since it's an OEM installation and Toshiba doesn't have they technical
ability to solve what should be a straight forward issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions that do not involve a operating
system reinstall which may or may not fix the problem?
