Here's the thing I don't really understand. He never divorced in
Japan, so legally he's still the parent of the child. The mother never
filed for any sort of protection order in Japan. So how is it
kidnapping?

I'm seeking some friends to give me the inside scoop (he's from just
down the road from me) and will post if I find out anything. But
considering he got married a month after his divorce, I'm not inclined
to side with him until more details come out.

Would the wife have had visa issues, since the source of her green
card divorced her? Or does she get to keep that since her child is a
US citizen (I assume that's the case since he was going to the US
consulate to get passports for them).
