The ice on the canals of Amsterdam is not yet thick enough but it will be
within a few days.
The rivers just outside Amsterdam have good ice.

We are hoping for the Elfstedentocht (200 km ice route through 11 cities of
the Northern province of Friesland).
This is a magical skatingroute, every Dutchman/woman hopes to skate it once.
Our Prince Willem Alexander did it some years ago and finished it after 10
hours!

If you know anyone who can fix my original problem, let me know!

Well it has been a warm winter. I'm in Hakuba at the moment with
bright blue skies and unusual warmth (it feels more like March). I
watch the people ahead of me as they alternately hit ice
(infrequently), or rocks (frequently). Last time I skated on a lake I
did the same thing - because I'd prefer someone else to identify thin
ice.

How deep is the ice at the moment? Are you on rivers or the canals?
