Let's examine this example:
Sonata wa watasi-no Nuu PonYou desu.
Sonata = a car manufactured by Hyundai
watasi = the past pluperfect diminutive of "Watsui"
Nuu PonYou = shoyu-based salad dressing in a plastic squeeze bottle,
made by Momoya
Therefore, we can translate the sentence as "The small African tribesmen
drove to the store to buy Momoya salad dressing in a squeeze bottle for
me."
We are not given a source for this sentence, but perhaps it was written
by a JICA volunteer, an ODA distribution executive, or grateful
tourists. In any case, we know it was not written by any backpackers
who managed to get themselves kidnapped by trying to walk through Iraq
or Iran.
Clearly the infusion of Japanese money into Africa is working wonders in
improving the standards of living, if not the service in local eateries.
